Lions QB Stafford departs with ankle injury

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford injured his right ankle on his team’s third offensive play of Saturday’s game against the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers.Stafford later returned to the sideline in the second quarter but Chase Daniel again took the field as Detroit’s quarterback with 4:52 left in the half. The Lions were trailing 27-0 at the time.Stafford injured the ankle after throwing an incomplete pass with Tampa Bay linebacker Devin White applying pressure. Stafford appeared to take a misstep, causing the ankle to roll.He remained in the game for one more play. The Lions then examined him and called for a cart but Stafford declined and hopped off the field to the locker room.Detroit termed his return as questionable.When Stafford returned to the field with his right foot heavily taped, he watched the replay of his injury with a team video person.
